Canada’s modern metal masters THREAT SIGNAL have been added as direct support to EPICA on their upcoming January/February 2010 North American tour. The band will be touring in promotion of their recently released and Billboard charting sophomore album, Vigilance.

Vocalist Jon Howard commented:

"This will be THREAT SIGNAL's first tour supporting our new album, Vigilance. We are excited to be tearing apart North America with EPICA and BLACKGUARD and also promoting our new record on the road. Metal Underground Interview Front Man Jon Howard

Canadian melodic metallers Threat Signal just released their latest full-length album “Vigilance” on September 8th in North American and September 11th in Europe via Nuclear Blast Records. The band also had a headlining U.S. tour this summer alongside The Agonist, Flatline, and Thy Will Be Done. Vocalist Jon Howard, who also fronts Arkaea, talked with me about “Vigilance” and Threat Signal’s plans for the future.
xFiruath: Can you tell me a bit about how you started in music and how Threat Signal came together?

Jon: I got into music a long time ago. I probably started on piano when I was 11. Then I ditched piano because I hated the theory and everything. I got into guitar and started playing little Nirvana songs and things. Then I got into singing and formed Threat Signal in 2003. It started with just me, my cousin, and a friend down the street. It wasn’t really a serious project at the time, it was more just a recording project. We put our music on the Internet and the record label found us. We didn’t search for success or send out CDs to labels. Kind of a crazy start man, it kind of hit us by surprise.

xFiruath: How would you explain Threat Signal’s sound to someone who wasn’t familiar with your music?

Jon: It’s metal straight up, but it’s very melodic and diverse metal. It goes back to the roots and it’s got some rock elements in there. There’s thrash metal, groove metal, some acoustic guitars. It’s a very diverse project with a broad spectrum. There’s a little bit of everything. It’s straight up metal but it has a lot to offer.

Yet Another Album Update!!!!

I'm completely stoked to announce we have finished recording the album!! I finished tracking my vocals a few days ago and all 13 songs have been sent away for mixing and mastering. The all mighty Greg Reely will be twisting the knobs for this badboy. We expect to have the album completely finished by the end of the month. I'll have the album artwork, track listing, release date and album title for you veeery soon.

May / June USA and CANADA dates are posted as well. We'll be playing half of the new record live! Come check it out.

Jon Checks In With Another Album Update!

I know I've been a little slow on the updates... But thats a good thing because I'm working my ass off in the studio!

All of the music (drums, guitars, overdubs, solos, bass, and keys) are completely done and edited. I cant believe how siiiick this record sounds already, and its not even mixed yet. We plan to start mixing later this month.

I've recently set up a little studio in a small room by myself, and I've been tracking vocals for the last few days. I find this is the best way for me to get the best performance from myself. I have no distractions, and I'm able to sing whenever I need to.

We'll be working on part deux of the studio videos which will include bass tracking, guitar overdubs and solos, and some random partying. I may even film some of my vocals for you guys as well.

Thanks for reading and my next blog will be telling you that this album is DONE!!! fuckin right

New Record Update

Right now I'm sitting in my home studio comping/editing the rhythm guitar tracks we recently recorded. And let me tell you its sounding tighter than a 2 year old! Not that I would know what that means, but Pat might?

Raymond Hererra and B-Real where nice enough to get us into their studio (Temple Studios) in Chatsworth California to track the guitars for the album earlier in December. We tried many different amps and cabinets to get the most bad ass tone we could. We ended up using Diesel, VHT and Marshall heads, through Randal and Marshall cabs with 8 different mics. Jeremy Blair the Engineer at Temple Studios helped us out a TON with getting the perfect tone. That dude is the shiiiiit!

Once I'm done editing the guitars, we will start tracking bass. The plan is to get most of the music tracked by the end of January so I can start vocals.

I know you hate reading so we are putting together another home video for you guys, so hold tight!

Looks like our December 11th show in London, On. with Hail the Villain will go on without us. Guitar and Bass tracks are being laid down for the new album in LA as we speak, and aren't expected to wrap up December 12th. There is the possibility of a make up update in the new year, but nothing is set in stone. We'll make it up to you. Never the less London - get your asses out to The Music Hall for a heavy dose of Hail the Villain!

Jon Checks In - Studio Update

What up metal heads So we've started tracking the new Threat Signal album! We've chosen to self produce and record most of the album close to home. This keeps a more comfortable, less stress full work environment, and we can work whenever and however long we want. Which I believe will make for a KILLER second album.

We are recording 13 tracks, one of those songs is the VERY first Threat Signal song ever written. We thought it would be a waste to let the song go unheard, so we are throwing it down! The rest of the songs are brand new that we've been working on this year. Some of the song titles include, Through My Eyes, Severed, United We Stand, and The Beginning Of The End.

Norm has recently finished tracking drums, and we are editing them now. They sound amazing! Norm did a great job of pounding his skins haha. We will begin tracking guitars in about 2 weeks.

Our Eastern US tour wrapped up this past Sunday, and to put it in a nutshell - we all had a blast. Big thanks to our friends Bleed the Sky as well as Jerry, and Mike. The Destro, and Gigan. Not to mention Kyle Mcknight, for his performance on Counterbalance at the Hamilton show. All the folks who worked behind the scenes to make these shows possible. And of course all of our friends and fans new and old for coming out to support us and all the bands these dates. You people are the shit!

Also, we'd like to apologize to our friends who live in or made the trek to Indianapolis to see us perform. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, day 2 of the Indy Metal Fest II was cancelled. We'll make it up to you in 2009.

So I think it's time I should let you know whats going on with the new album.

We've been working really hard for almost a year writing and doing pre-production for the new album. I couldn't be more stoked on the songs! If you thought Under Reprisal was killer, you need to check this shit out. The album is 95% written, and we'll be hitting the studio in November to start recording the real thing. So with that said, we'll be looking at a release date early next year.

I'll have a lot more details for you soon!

Disappointour 2008........

Was hardly a disappointment! Winnipeg was a blast! We're all especially happy to have made the 25 hour trek out to Manitoba with our good Bro's in Baptized in Blood. These guy's can throw down with the best of them, and are all awesome dudes to boot! In short - Hella Good Times! We'd also like to thank Mark Fraser, & Rob Watson for hooking us up with a radio interview at Freq 107. Not to mention April, and Gordo at Freq 107. As well as the rest of the crew from Xplicit for putting on a great show, and for their hospitality.

Unfortunately due to reasons beyond our control, the Thunder Bay promoter backed out of the July 20th show a day before we were supposed to play. We apologize to all our friends and fans who were expecting to see us up there. We'll make it up to you all soon.

We're also happy to mention - since its release on Nuclear Blast 's official YouTube page, our video for 'A New Beginning' has received almost 30,000 plays in its first week posted. Thanks to all of you for checking it out. Keep the comments coming too. Good or bad. Especially bad - we always enjoy a good laugh XD
